Predictive fluid model for self-consistent description of inductive RF coupling in powerful negative hydrogen ion sources

چکیده
Abstract RF-driven negative hydrogen ion sources are typically operated at low frequencies around 1 MHz, gas pressures or below Pa and large power densities up to 10 Wcm -3 . Owing these conditions as well the current discharge geometries antenna layouts, RF coupling is far from optimized, i.e. only a fraction η of delivered by generator absorbed plasma. This considerably limits performance reliability sources. To study bidirectional self-consistent fluid model introduced. Taking into account interplay between nonlinear Lorentz force electron viscosity (usually neglected in state-of-the-art models) steady state solution obtained, where trends reflect experimental data. Solutions calculated but with increased masses indicate that latter responsible for systematically η, which observed experimentally when deuterium instead used feed gas.

Size Scaling of Negative Hydrogen Ion Sources for Fusion
The RF-driven negative hydrogen ion source (H , D ) for the international fusion experiment ITER has a width of 0.9 m and a height of 1.9 m and is based on a scale prototype source being in operation at the IPP test facilities BATMAN and MANITU for many years. Among the challenges to meet the required parameters in a caesiated source at a source pressure of 0.3 Pa or less is the challenge in si...

Due to the development of reliable H ion sources, charge-exchange injection into circular accelerators has become routine. This paper reviews recent developments in negative hydrogen ion sources. The underlying physics, operating parameters and beam characteristics of selected sources will be described and compared. Figure 1: History of duoplasmatron and surface source development.
متن کاملConcepts of magnetic filter fields in powerful negative ion sources for fusion.
The performance of large negative ion sources used in neutral beam injection systems is in long pulses mainly determined by the increase of the currents of co-extracted electrons. This is in particular a problem in deuterium and limits the ion currents which are for long pulses below the requirements for the ITER source. In the source of the ELISE test facility, the magnetic field in front of t...
متن کاملModified mathematical model for variable fill fluid coupling
Variable fill fluid couplings are used in the speed control units. Also, variation in coupling oil volume is used in adapting one size of coupling to a wider range of power transmission applications. Available model for the partially filled fluid couplings, has a good performance for couplings with fixed amount of oil but their performance will be degraded if they are used for the variable fill...
متن کاملSelf-consistent fluid model for a quantum electron gas
It is shown that, for a large class of statistical mixtures, the Wigner-Poisson (or Hartree) system can be reduced to an effective Schrödinger-Poisson system, in which the Schrödinger equation contains a new nonlinearity. For the case of a zero-temperature one-dimensional electron gas, this additional nonlinearity is of the form Ψ 4. In the long wavelength limit, the results obtained from the e...
